Make a Leather Journal Workshop

We started Atelier127 because of our love for leather goods and the craft behind them. We are a team of four family members, and we love taking a simple piece of leather and transforming it into something that becomes part of someone’s everyday life. You’ll be learning directly from the same person who makes the leather goods for our brand.What began as a passion for leathercraft gradually grew into Atelier127, our New Zealand-based leather goods brand. We handcraft leather wallets, journals, watch straps and everyday pieces using quality Italian leather and traditional techniques.As we developed our own leather products, we realised how much we enjoyed sharing the process with other people. There’s something really special about taking a piece of leather and, with a few simple techniques, turning it into something completely personal.That’s what inspired our Make Your Own Leather Journal Workshop.During the workshop, you don’t just receive a finished journal — you get to be involved in making and personalising it yourself. You’ll choose your leather cover and elastic cord, learn some basic leathercraft techniques such as beveling and burnishing the leather edges, and assemble your journal with the elastic cord.Then comes the fun part!You’ll choose your notebook inserts, charms and stickers, experiment with our collection of stamps and inks, and create your own journal pages. We’ll also take an Instax print of your favourite photo, so you can add a special personal memory to your journal.At the end of the workshop, we’ll monogram your journal with your name or initials, giving you a finished piece that is truly your own.We love teaching because everyone approaches the process differently. Some people have a clear idea of what they want to create, while others simply start experimenting with stamps, colours and attachments and see where it takes them. There’s no right or wrong way to make your journal.Our goal is to give you a chance to slow down, get creative and experience some traditional leathercraft techniques in a relaxed and fun environment.You don’t need any previous leathercraft or creative experience — just come along, have a go, and make something that is uniquely yours.
